Arizona Society of Homebrewers

Hey all-

I just finished brewing an "Imperial" Irish Red Ale (the first recipe I created) and I seem to have some OG issues. According to Hopville my OG should be 1.072, but my actual OG (adjusted for temp) was 1.096. How can this be? Also, while currently the recipe says it will turn out Light to Medium Brown, I swear it said copper/red yesturday. Maybe the program has issues? Any help is greatly appreciated. Here's the recipe: http://hopville.com/recipe/1677955

I'm not familar with this program, but difference in OG could be due to volume of water and your rate of evaporation. I use beersmith.

i put in my system, ibrewmaster, and i got 1071..if you ended up with less than 5 gallons thaqts probably the issue. also got a SRM of 16.2, which is right where it says it will be. the best way to adjust for temp is to do it naturaly. dont rely on calculations. i use a counter flow and as soon as its in the mid 70s i take a gravity reading..

what are you using for gavity readings?

either way your beer is going to be just fine but just more ABV..hope you pitched enough yeast for that monster.

i would invest in some type of computer program to help calculations, or brew proven recipes.
