Arizona Society of Homebrewers

Hello everyone,  I'm looking for some Help from the club on this matter.  I have gotten some of the stainless steel growlers and have tried to get them filled at local breweries and have been told they can't, But no one can give me a reason why. Hopefully I can get a straight answer cause our club knows the world of beer better than anyone.  Thank you for your help..

The way the law was written it specifically states that it should be a glass container (see below). Kind of an accidental oversight, but I thought I heard it was going to be changed....

4-244.  32
c) A Bar, Beer And Wine Bar, Liquor Store, Beer And Wine Store Or Domestic Microbrewery Licensee Who Dispenses Beer Only In A Clean Glass Container With A Maximum Capacity That Does Not Exceed One Gallon And Not For Consumption On The Premises As Long As:
(i) The Licensee Or The Licensee's Employee Fills The Container At The Tap At The Time Of Sale.
(ii) The Container Is Sealed With A Plastic Adhesive And Displays A Government Warning Label.
(iii) The Dispensing Of That Beer Is Not Done Through A Drive-Through Or Walk-Up Service Window.

From what I've heard, the Brewer's Guild is currently working to introduce legislation to allow stainless steel growlers. It should eventually happen. Until then...fill it up with homebrew! :)

They aren't legal growlers in Arizona.  Oversight or something!

I have one from Montana - good for filling with home brewed super amazing beer though!

Excellent!

Last update is that it will take until around August to get it fully revised.  Hang in there!  The way the original law went through was somewhat of a surprise and this specific item as to glass was based on what was currently available and not where the future went.

It was great that we got the growler law at any rate.  A little more of a wait is the easy part now...
