We are in immediate need of someone to coordinate instruction of the BJCP class. Ideally we are looking for someone with judging experience who has taken the exam and possibly taken a BJCP class before, although none of this is absolutely necessary. We mainly need someone to make sure that every class has an instructor lined up. It could be you, another experienced judge, or even one of the students. You don’t have to be at every class as long as you have an instructor lined up to cover it. Please let me know if you would be interested in helping out with this by contacting Barry Weeg or sending an email to competition@azhomebrewers.org.
Thanks.

All,
The BJCP is updating the test format starting on April 1st. The text below in italics was posted to the BJCP forum describing the new test format.
The BJCP is still limiting the number of seats per exam to 12, so we will be limited in the number of seats available at our August exam. We will assign open seats in the exam using a points system based on class attendance and judging experience. I will update the class once we have finalized this system. Exam seats will be assigned by rank on June 30th to all people who have passed the online exam. People who do not get a seat at the August exam will be wait-listed for the exam and have priority for our next scheduled exam in March of 2013. Hopefully by early next year the judging backlog from the old exam will clear up and we can sit more than 12 people for that exam.
The online exam is supposed to go live March 1st. I would recommend waiting at least until April to take it since you have one year from passing the online exam before taking the tasting exam so this would cover you until our tasting exam next March.
-The web-based exam is required for every new prospective judge. The test covers the same topic areas as the previous essay exam but uses 200 questions in a mixture of true-false, multiple choice, and multiple answer questions. This test is automatically graded on a pass/fail basis. If the taker passes the exam, they are a Provisional Judge. If they fail the exam, they are not in the BJCP. Those that pass will have to take a tasting exam within one year to become a BJCP judge. For these new judges, their tasting score determines their BJCP rank: the normal minimum scores apply though no matter how high the tasting score is these judges can not attain a rank higher than Certified until they take the BJCP Written Proficiency Exam.
-The taste exam will consist of 6 beers and 90 minutes will be provided for evaluation.
-The essay exam will be called the BJCP Written Proficiency Exam and will consist of five questions. 90 minutes will be the time limit for the Proficiency Exam.
-The BJCP Written Proficiency Exam will be required for those wishing to advance to National or higher ranks. To qualify to sit for the Proficiency Exam, participants must have scored at least 80% on either the expanded (six beer) tasting exam or the tasting portion of the traditional exam and have a minimum of 10 judging experience points.
-If both essay and tasting are being taken, the answers to the essay portion are collected at the end of the 90 minute period and after a short break the tasting portion will start. The weighting between essay and tasting under these new exams will change to 50/50 vs. the old 70/30 of essay to tasting.
-For existing judges, the score earned on the new tasting exam will be combined with an existing essay score from the traditional exam to determine your combined score. The weighting will be converted to 50/50 at the time of a retake. Same for a retake of the BJCP Written Proficiency Test, the new essay score is combined with an existing tasting score in a 50/50 weighting. No combined scores are recalculated for existing judges except when a retake of one portion or the other happens. No ones rank ever goes down, no ones goes up unless they retake.

I assume there will be no class on 01/20/12 during AZ Beer Week?

Why not drink some cans of Santa Fe European Pilsner tonight for can beer day for homework?

Kevin,
Is it possible to make this a registered exam prep? Looks like you can get off-flavor kit for free.
