Arizona Society of Homebrewers

To My Phoenix Friends- Come See What Beer Culture is all About

Thanks for clicking in. I know many of you through twitter or some other social media avenue. You may be a fine diner, an urban planner, a night owl or just a damned interesting person. You know I'm a beer guy. I may have raised a pint with you or met you at some networking function. Maybe we have yet to meet. Cheers!

You've heard me bang the drum about beer culture in Phoenix and in a little more than a week, the people here in ASH- The Arizona Society of Homebrewers are about to deliver it. If you want to have an opportunity of understanding how beer can change your outlook on living here in Phoenix Metro, you're going to have to act soon. Before Oct 15th. It's our silly liquor law situation. Please bear with me.

Our Oktoberfest is on OCT 22nd at Tempe Kiwanis Park from 12 to 6PM. We expect 500 or so. We've done this for over a dozen years. It's one festival that Beer Industry people look forward to. It's kid friendly, free to designated drivers of members and the beer and food are free to members. it's a members only event, but our membership is open until that Oct 15 deadline. I'll talk more on membership, but lets talk about what else is going on that day.

Some of you will be going to the Phoenix Food Truck Festival. If our event weren't on the same day, this is where I'd be too. One of my friends runs the Mojo Bowl truck. We recently used Short Leash for one of our homebrew meetings. I'm usually at one food truck Friday a month. Their cost is the same price as our Membership, $30. Four Peaks is running a cash bar. You know I love Four Peaks but a Cash bar could set you back $20 or $30 more. We'll have plenty of free Four Peaks beer. The Truck fest doesn't start until 4, but I guarantee, if you go to our fest, you won't be wanting for more. You'll certainly get a wide variety of food there, but read on about what we'll have in the food an beer department.

Many of you that live on the NW side are going to Peoria Beer Festival. Seems like a good lineup. Nothing you can't get at a big box liquor store or Topps. I'm guessing that we'll have 75 beers that you will never be able to buy because they are homebrews. We'll have at least 1 beer from every one of the 23 BJCP recognized beer styles. Oh and the food is included in the $45 Peoria price, but it's samples. We don't do samples... we do plates. Plates of BBQ from the amazing Arizona BBQ club. If you live on the NW side I understand. We don't want you to drive, but know that there are reasonably priced hotels nearby.

So to recap, here is what you get from us with your $30 membership.

  • Free beer: About 75 different Homebrews, about 10 commercial beers. (Four Peaks, Sun Up, Gordon Biersch)
  • Free BBQ and sausages. Other sides made by the club. Other foods brought by some of our sponsors.
  • 2 bands. Bargrass Revival and 415Edward.
  • Bouncy house for the kids. The area is fenced in and we have a security company manning the gate.
  • Free for designated drivers of members.

The catch is, you have to be an ASH member before Oct 15th. We operate with full compliance of Arizona Liquor law and do not do any event sales. We reserve the right to revoke or deny membership at any time for any reason as detailed in our by-laws. VSS security will check government IDs against a member list at the door. That's the cold hard facts on our neo-prohibitionist laws.

The best part of all of this that you are a member until the end of the year and you can take advantage of 2 more events and the motherlode of beer discounts detailed here. Some of you could recoup that $30 in 2 weeks with a buck off here and there on delicious pints and a few 10% of deals at select places. As a member, you'll be able to re-up in December at a reduced rate. That way you can get Springfest in and next year's Oktoberfest together in 2012.

See you at Oktoberfest!
